The Family Book

The Family Book is a children’s book that was written by Todd Parr and published for the first time in 2003. Though slightly controversial due to the inclusion of topics that deal with same-sex families in its content, the book has been praised widely for its excellent treatment of the same in a respectful, inclusive manner. It has been placed in the summer reading list for the District of Columbia Public School system due to its simple explanations and illustrations.

The book has 32 pages, each one with colourfully depicted pictures and explanations that describing different kinds of families, like ones which are noisy, silly, those with one parent, those with two moms or dads and even the so-called normal kind. The book, coming from an author with more than 30 books to his credit and who is known for his easy and simple approach to explaining the subject matter at hand, is an interesting and informative read for very young readers. The book aims to introduce its young readers to the concept of family.

The Family Book is available as a paperback and is in its first reprint edition. The book was published by Little, Brown Young Readers US in 2010 and is in the English language.
