This book tells the stories of ten Indian monarchs who find, at best, passing mention in the history textbooks we read, though their lives were exciting and their achievements considerable - Ajatashatru, Bindusara, Rudradaman, Pulakeshin II, Jayapida, Didda, Ramapala, Abbakka, Chand Bibi  and Ahilyabai Holkar. 

Devika Rangachari is a prolific children’s author. Her books include ‘When Amma Went Away’, ‘The Wit of Tenali Raman’ and ‘Queen of Ice’. In 2002, Growing Up (Children’s Book Trust, 2000) was on the Honour List of the International Board of Books for Young People (IBBY).
